12th September 2021 Unst NNW3 Overcast

An autumnal chill in the air was no doubt courtesy of the northerly airflow. A Green Sandpiper and a Barred Warbler at Skaw gave me hope that there might be some more new arrivals but thereafter it felt as if most birds seen were lingerers. One such lingerer proved the highlight of the day being a Marsh Warbler in our garden - first glimpsed sat atop our rosa regosa and suspected to be a Marsh but evading critical analysis at 6.45pm on Thursday, we failed to see it on Friday, only to see it very briefly in flight yesterday diving into our willows whilst evading our neighbour's dog, but today it finally showed itself well enough to clinch the identification and was subsequently repeatedly heard calling, albeit remaining very elusive.
