4th December Phu Khieo Wildlife Sanctuary & Nam Nao National Park

We drove the entrance road from dawn to the Km9 clearing and beyond and walked various sections of the road through the better-looking lowland forest encountering a decent mixed-species flock that included a pair of Black-and-buff Woodpeckers - my first new species of the trip. The Km9 clearing played host to a troop of agile Phayre's Leaf Monkeys. We then returned to the HQ and vacated our room before our final drive back to the entrance hoping for Austen's Brown Hornbill but again no sight or sound of this species although a considerable surprise came in the form of encountering an Asiatic Jackal all the more so being at midday.  We then made the drive to Nam Nao National Park where we quickly moved into a pre-booked cabin and made our way to the Pine Forest Trail virtually opposite the HQ road. We saw plenty of birds seen along this open woodland trail in a short time and then heard a Blossum-headed Parakeet call being the target species for Nam Nao National Park. We were soon watching a small flock inspecting a nest hole. We returned to Nam Nao where we eat at the food stalls meeting a Thai birder who helpfully translated the menu for us. Overnight we heard an Elephant crashing around close to our cabin but unfortunately failed to see it.
