We spent the whole morning walking the King's Project. An early morning visit to yesterday's bamboo gulley was unproductive and it all too soon became hot and sunny. We waited awhile overlooking the ravine behind the restaurant but it proved quiet too. A walk through some fields produced some overwintering Olive-backed Pipits but no hoped-for Thrushes. We decided to change location and visited the Ban Luang resort quickly seeing a male Amur Wagtail, a White-capped Riverchat and a female Chestnut-bellied Rock Thrush. The owner of the resort kindly told us that some Black-headed Greenfinches had recently been seen in the pines at the army checkpoint above Ban Luang so we made our way there. We were soon watching a Giant Nuthatch and encountered a flock of Scarlet-faced Liocichla and then heard a Spot-throated Babbler singing in response to playback but unfortunately failed to see it. We remained until dark in case the Greenfinches arrived to roost but we didn't see any.
