We returned to the army checkpoint area above Ban Luang for dawn and saw many birds as the sun warmed the slopes with a couple of Buff-throated warblers being the most pleasing. We then walked the Mae Phur Valley Trail where the habitat looked great but we unfortunately saw few birds. We then returned to the Ban Luang Resort where the owner kindly allowed us access to his photographic blind although the waterfall area proved more productive as we managed to photograph a male Black-breasted Thrush and White-capped Riverchat there. We again returned to the army checkpoint but there was less activity in the evening.

Thrushes seem in short supply so far this Winter at DAK so I am feeling fortunate to have seen two Black-breasted Thrushes over the three days here. Both have been located in wet ravines dominated by bamboo.
