An early start to reach the west side of Doi Lang early although a Red Junglefowl walking across the road was as close as we got to seeing a Mrs. Hume's Pheasant. We were however soon enjoying watching a new species as a small party of White-browed Laughingthrushes were seen from the car and on stopping we soon saw two species of Parrotbill and a good mixed-species flock. At the Military Checkpoint we walked along the road running parallel to the Burmese border for a couple of hours in the fine weather not realising that we weren't meant to walk further than 200m! We stumbled across a male Crested Bunting, a pair of Crested Serpent Eagles were circling overhead, there were good numbers of Common Rosefinches but they were eclipsed by finding an obliging pair of Giant Nuthatches. As we returned to the checkpoint we found our second new bird of the day in the form of a Crested Finchbill. At the checkpoint we were briefly quizzed as to where we wanted to go - Myanmar? We assumed the guard was joking but in hindsight he was probably wondering where we'd been for so long! I showed him a video of Giant Nuthatch and he soon lost interest in us. We returned to Fang and again eat in the Tesco Lotus store.
