The wind was twice as strong as forecast today but it was dry and warm in the sunshine. Out garden feeders produced our first Greenfinch of the year alongside 3 Chaffinches. A walk around Norwick added 7 Woodpigeons, 2 Robins, 2 Chiffchaffs, a Goldcrest and a Chaffinch. Whilst walking near Skeggie a Tundra Bean Goose flew past and landed near Haroldswick. We then met Mike Pennington who had found 2 Greenland White-fronted Geese at Hamar that we were soon enjoying watching - the first I've seen for a very long time. On our way home there was a drake Pintail on the sea off Haroldswick beach.
Female Greenfinch at Millfield
Only the fifth Greenfinch I've seen on Unst and all have fallen withing the rather narrow window of the 31/3 to 7/4.
Male Chaffinch at Millfield
Goldcrest at Norwick
Tundra Bean Goose at Haroldswick
The swollen base to its lower mandible identifies it as a Tundra and appearing quite large alongside the Greylags it's presumably a gander.
Adult Greenland White-fronted Goose at Hamar
the first I've seen on Shetland
Drake Pintail and Mallards at Haroldswick
only the second we've seen this year
