8th October 2016 Unst SE1 Clear

Firstly well done to Bob and BHRG for securing the first Red-flanked Bluetail for Beachy today! Our day started clear and calm and we joined Robbie at Skaw where there was no sign of the White's Thrush but a Song Thrush, 2 Robins, 2 Chiffchaffs, a Siberian Chiffchaff, a Chaffinch and 2 Brambling. North Dale produced just 4 Goldcrests. Norwick was better playing host to a Kestrel, our first Red-backed Shrike of the Autumn, a Bluethroat, a Robin, 8 Redwings, 5 Blackcaps, a Chiffchaff, 2 Yellow-browed Warblers, 5 Goldcrests. 50 Brambling and a Chaffinch. Logan picked out the Osprey overflying Norwick just as we were leaving. Houlland added another 40 Redwings, 6 Blackcaps, and a Siberian Chiffchaff and nearby at Baliasta there was 4 Blackcaps, a Chiffchaff, a Siberian Chiffchaff and a Yellow-browed Warbler. At the School there was a Blackcap, 2 Goldcrests and at least 6 Mealy Redpolls. It was nice and calm at Clingera where there was a Robin and 3 or 4 Yellow-browed Warblers were actively feeding. Our final visit of the day was to Norwick where the potatoe fields had been harvested that were attracting 3 Little Buntings and a Woodcock was flushed.
