As we walked out of the door at dawn 35 Barnacle Geese flew over Millfield heading south. Skaw was quite lively producing our first Stonechat of the year, a Redwing, the Chiffchaff, a Goldcrest and a new Little Bunting. North Dale was also productive as we saw a Blyth's Reed Warbler in the roses there that may or may not be the lingerer from a good few days ago and also 2 Chiffchaffs and a Redwing. Back at Millfield we saw another 66 Barnacle Geese flying south. Lund held 10 Redwings and around 10 Blackbirds. Westing produced a surprise in the form of a first-winter Curlew Sandpiper and a Brambling. Back at Millfield 30 Woodpigeons flew south. Setters Hill proved quiet with just a Chiffchaff. However, the best was again saved to last, as on trying to photograph a Siberian Chiffchaff accompanying 2 Goldcrests at Clingera we found a stunning Hornemann's Arctic Redpoll that unfortunately only briefly lingered before disappearing.
