2nd October 2016 Unst SE1 Clear

Skaw proved to be quiet with just a Redwing and the usual Chiffchaff seen. On our return a Blyth's Lesser Whitethroat was frequenting our garden. Norwick produced a Grey Wagtail, a Robin, a Lesser Whitethroat, 4 Blackcaps, a Yellow-browed Warbler, a Chiffchaff and a Goldcrest. At Burrafirth the Tufted Duck was still present, a Yellow-browed Warbler, 4 Chiffchaffs including a couple of likely Siberian Chiffchaffs (not calling), we found a Little Bunting feeding along the edge of the road and 4 Goldfinches. At Houlland a Merlin flew past and there was a Blackcap, 2 Yellow-browed Warblers, 2 Chiffchaffs and 3 Brambling. Clingera played host to 2 Blackcaps, at least 3 Yellow-browed Warblers and a Willow Warbler. However, best was saved to last as Mike P kindly text to say he had found a Hornemann's Arctic Redpoll at Hamar. We soon joined him obtaining a prolonged flight view and then distant views of it perched on the roof of a shed.
