An early morning visit to the Tree Nursery provided the hoped-for photographic opportunity with the Taiwan Wren-Babbler. We then had a quick look along the closed 210 trail where Silver-backed Needletails were zooming overhead before making the journey to Firefly Lodge near Alishan. The satnav took us a hairy route on narrow roads that landslips had rendered barely passable in our hire car at one point. We survived and were soon drinking tea with Mr. Liu the owner. He soon drove us through the tea plantation to the private forest reserve where we were dropped at his forest hide. After a wait we enjoyed close views of a procession of Swinhoe's Pheasants, a small flock of Dusky Fulvettas and then a large group of Taiwan Hill Partridges. After a nice evening meal we then went spotlighting seeing luminous Fireflies that were completely trumped by finding an obliging Mountain Scops Owl - brilliant!
