We enjoyed an early morning walk through acacia-like scrub near the Jungle Hut accompanied by the local guide. It was a good area to see wintering migrants and we saw a Grey-bellied Cuckoo, many Booted Warblers, Blyth's Reed Warblers, and Eastern Orphean Warbler and a Hume's Whitethroat. We then spent some time working the bamboo stand at the Jungle Hut seeing a couple of Indian Pittas, a couple of Indian Blue Robins, the only Grey-headed Bulbul of the trip, our first White-cheeked Barbets and a Indian Brown-capped Pygmy-Woodpecker. In the afternoon we again headed out, accompanied by the local guide, to an area of fields but had walked less than a kilometer when we chanced upon a tusker eating grass. The local guide was keen for us to quickly retreat, and whilst we didn't know it at the time, the same elephant had killed a villager just a week earlier and then hospitalised another later the same day as our encounter! Returning to the Jungle Hut at dusk I just had time to dash to the bamboo stand successfully seeing an Indian Pitta hopping around on the ground and then flushing a pair of Brown Fish Owls from a small pool.
