We left Mysore early morning and after a brief stop at a roadside jheel we continued to an area of arid farmland where we found a nice selection of raptors including a juvenile Montagu's Harrier, a Steppe Eagle and a White-eyed Buzzard. On arrival at Mudumalai we were dropped at the Jungle Hut for lunch where a quick walk to a stand of bamboo produced an Orange-headed Thrush and a dazzling Malabar Whistling-Thrush. We then met Jijo who had arranged a walk with a local guide across a grassy knoll where we found several Malabar Larks. During the evening an Oriental Scops Owl started calling near our cabin but it steadfastly refused to respond to the call of Walden's Oriental Scops Owl, being the only 'Oriental' Scops Owl call I had with me.
