10th September 2019 Unst NW2 Overcast

An early morning visit to Skaw suggested something of a clearout of migrants with just the Iceland Gull and Whinchat being seen. A walk around Norwick produced 2 Kestrels, a Whimbrel flew over, 3 Swallows, a Common Whitethroat, 3 Willow Warblers and 2 Chiffchaffs. Burrafirth was better as we found a very elusive Barred Warbler in the Shore Station garden and nearby a Garden Warbler and 3 Willow Warblers that included the bird of the day - a really bright acredula Willow Warbler. Something of a coincidence having attended Per Alstrom's talk at Spurn last Saturday that touched upon the subspecies of Willow Warbler, their migration divide and zone of integradation.
