The forecast overnight snow didn't materialise and it was a calm bright start to the day. A check through the Gulls at Haroldswick and Norwick went unrewarded. Being a nice sunny morning we walked out to Heogland seeing a Red-throated Diver sat on the sea, c.100 Eider, c.150 Long-tailed Ducks, 30 Wigeon, 10 Goldeneye, 4 Tufted Duck and a distant immature Iceland Gull around the offshore salmon cages. We walked back to Uyeasound under threatening skies and then visited Belmont Loch which was playing host to c.60 vocal Long-tailed Ducks and the ice-free corner of Loch of Snarravoe held 35 Tufted Duck. A drive along to Westing proved quiet although the Pink-footed Goose first seen by Robbie on the 29th January was still present.
