2nd August 2018 Unst SW2 Overcast

Awoke to dank conditions with think fog shrouding the hilltops. For a few weeks I've regularly been checking the beach at Norwick in the hope that the feeding Kittiwakes might attract a Long-tailed Skua and this morning they did! An apparent third-summer individual. I left to dash home to put the news out but frustratingly by the time I returned with Brydon and Casey the Skua was nowhere to be seen. We then checked Valyie where the Greenish Warbler was seen and even heard singing. The 2 Pied Flycatchers and 2 Willow Warblers were also present. Skaw added the Common Whitethroat and 2 Willow Warblers. At Burrafirth we saw a Garden Warbler, a Willow Warbler and a Reed Bunting. One final surprise was a singing male Redpoll at Norwick.
