6th October 2012 Hegura-jima W1 Overcast

Near-calm conditions with a slight westerly airstream at dawn being overcast all day and quite humid. We walked the Central Track to the Dragon's Pool where we saw a party of 3 Coal Tits and back via the School Field. First stop after breakfast was the Water Plant scrub tracking down Kabutomushi's male Siberian Rubythroat - the first of three males seen today. We then walked to the SW beach and enclosure before meeting Rob Edmunds off the ferry. We then tried the School Field where the only Hobby of our trip overflew us and a new Tree Pipit dropped in. We then walked the Tsukasa Fields before returning to the SW where we saw the only 2 White-fronted Geese of the trip touring the isle looking for some suitable habitat and then finally caught-up with a Taiga Flycatcher first seen by other birders yesterday and our first Little Cuckoo of the trip. We then found nearby the first Daurian Redstart (a smart adult male) and Red-flanked Bluetail of the trip.
