I was invited to participate in another SOTEAG survey and was helped and welcomed aboard the Ayda Ruby II by the skipper Phil Harris at Toft. The swell prevented us heading northwest off Shetland so it was my first trip off the east coast of Unst, Fetlar and Out Skerries. Phil located and approached a trawler and two long-liners and there were seabirds attending all three vessels. Highlights included c.15 Sooty Shearwaters, 2 Manx Shearwaters and a handful of European Storm Petrels and a couple of pods of White-beaked Dolphins. Will also plucked 3 large Cod from the wake of the fishing vessels. As always, grateful thanks to Phil and will for all their hard work.
