Our last morning at Cat Tien NP and we joined the pre-dawn gathering of birders having breakfast in the Yellow Bamboo Restaurant. Thang told us that yesterday evening he had heard a Blue-rumped Pitta in the forest block immediately east of the HQ that he felt was in an area we might stand a chance of seeing it. A visiting birder then told us he had seen and photographed a pair in the forest block immediately to the west of the HQ. Not surprisingly we decided to walk west but after a couple of hours searching in vain we were about to walk east when there in front of us appeared a male Blue-rumped Pitta - superb! Jubilant with our success we were then a little unsure what to try with our remaining couple of hours but we decided to walk further west along the road. It soon became hot and we returned to the HQ to make our way to the ferry. Thang appeared to say that our driver was bringing an incoming group to Cat Tien NP and unfortunately their plane had been delayed. He estimated we would now be leaving at 2.30pm. We decided to walk east along the road and back to the HQ. Our driver, AmTu, arrived and we were on our way. Unfortunately we arrived at Deo Nui San just as the rain started there and it soon became dark so we made our way back to a hotel in Di Linh.
