Lapwings in wing moult at Rodmell
Dispersal from breeding areas begins late May and June, when many adults make long westward movements. Thus many from Hungary, Czechoslovakia, Switzerland, and southern West Germany move west to north-west in early Summer to Low Countries and Britain; birds from Baltic countries go south-west, and also west to Denmark and Britain. Immigrants entering eastern England in June-July have often begun wing moult. (BWP)
