First-summer Great Spotted Cuckoo at Shoreham (Alan Tate http://www.aabirdpix.com/)

On hearing of this bird I was on audit in Gravesend, and even worse, had travelled there in my bosses car! Explaining to Chris that something of an emergency had arisen he kindly drove me back to Sussex at speed in his Vauxhall Manta. On arriving at Lancing College fortunately my parents knew which tree the bird was roosting in and I was soon watching it. I then saw it on numerous subsequent occasions being only a short detour on my way to or from work in Hove.
