Having left Beachy on hearing news, I stopped on the M25 to phone Birdline again, only to hear there had been no further sign of the bird. I met Mike Henty in the services and we soon heard the bird had been seen again. On arriving the bird was frequenting the edge of some sallows and was watched until late afternoon characteristically pumping its tail.

Pete Neatherway tempted us north to try for both a singing River Warbler and an adult summer plumaged Ross's Gull. Whilst the views of the Warbler were more distant that we would have liked the same wasn't true for the Gull that was feeding on emerging insects along the edge of a small pool and therefore showing down to a few feet from its small group of admirers affording spectacular views.

After suffering double dips at Portland news of an adult showing well at Holme Golf Course tempted us to dash to Norfolk where on a lovely Spring afternoon the Rock Thrush was performing admirably to its crowd of admirers. Later disaster struck with it being hit by a Sparrowhawk but it was rescued by twitchers and taken into care overnight. It was released the following morning seemingly no worse for its ordeal whereupon it stayed on site for a week.

Having heard about this late, JFC & JK had already left. Having previously seen the Dummer bird this still felt too good an opportunity to ignore so I therefore made my own way, and almost unbelievably, the Owl was still perched in view when I arrived at the crowd. It then became active at dusk with even some flight views being eventually obtained.
