Pacific Swift over Cley (Rob Wilson)
After a chance call to Birdline in Hailsham after leaving Beachy JFC drove us straight to Cley where after abandoning our car with many others we watched the Pacific Swift feeding over Cley marshes until its disappearance.

After the excitement of the Pacific Swift a walk down Blakeney was in order to see the Desert Warbler that much to our surprise was clearly nest-building!

Male Marmora's Warbler at St. Abbs Head (Alan Tate http://www.aabirdpix.com)
Having only obtained brief views of the male at Spurn the year before, JK was keen to see another, so we made the long trip north for this third for Britain and soon after dawn were watching it singing whilst it did a circuit of its favoured gorse-covered hillside.

Oriental Pratincole at Gimingham, Norfolk (Robin Chittenden)
Having seen the Oriental Pratincole at Elmney only distantly it seemed worth a trip to Norfolk to see this obliging bird frequenting some small horse paddocks. Little did we know that RDME would subsequently relocate it at Pevensey (whilst we were again Norfolk!) later in the year.

Adult Bridled Tern at Rye (Christine & Norman Winterman)
Fortunately the finders (the above photographers) phoned their news out to allow a hide full of observers to make a 'dawn raid' that paid off spectacularly with the Bridled Tern making several flypasts of the hide on leaving its roost before flying out to sea never to return again.
